Aerial pictures

August 31, 2011

The final set of aerial images of the junction improvements are now available on our Flickr account.

The image above is looking at Westham Crossroads towards Kings Crossroads, Jubilee Retail Park junction and King Street.

Work is continuing to equip bus stops in the borough with real time information displays.

We are monitoring the network and will make alterations where necessary to ensure the system is working as efficiently as possible.

Following the completion on the junction works, this blog will no longer be updated.

All questions and enquiries can still be directed to the project team:

Rodwell Road / Avenue junction

August 25, 2011

Rodwell junction (large version)

We appreciate that there have been some difficulties for traffic exiting Rodwell Avenue due to the junction being blocked by vehicles.

This week our traffic signal engineers have carried out some changes to the phasing of the Rodwell Road/Avenue junction to improve traffic flow for vehicles exiting Rodwell Avenue.

Since the changes have been made exiting Rodwell Avenue has improved.

Car park guidance in place

August 16, 2011

Examples of real time car park signs (large version)

Work to install detection equipment at the entrance and exit of Weymouth car parks is complete.

Real time information is now being displayed to tell drivers where the available parking spaces are in the following car parks: Swannery, Park Street, Melcombe Regis, Harbourside, the multi-storey, Cosens Quay, and the park & ride.

Car park guidance signs are located on:

  • Granby Way
  • Swannery Bridge
  • King Street
  • A354 Weymouth Relief Road
  • Commercial Road

There are also variable message signs in place that can be used to advise motorists to use the park & ride when the car parks in Weymouth town centre are full.

King Street corridor

August 11, 2011

Since the King Street signals were switched on it has not been working as efficiently as it could do to clear congestion. This is because we could not introduce the SCOOT system, which is the element that links the junctions, when the signals were first switched on.

The SCOOT system will be in place by the end of this week so that next week we can start to manage traffic flows along the corridor and reduce some of the congestion that has been forming there.

We will continue to keep a close eye on the network and make improvements where necessary to ensure the system is working as efficiently as possible.

Swannery car park

August 1, 2011

You may have noticed that the site offices have now been removed from Swannery car park.

Now that construction works are complete for the Weymouth Transport Package we are reinstating the area that was used for the site compound.

This week work will be taking place to resurface some areas of the car park.

  • Monday 1 August, 4pm to midnight – access into the car park will not be restricted for these works
  • Thursday 4 August, from about 9pm – there will be times where access to the car park is restricted to enable the final surfacing to be completed

Re-lining of the car park will be starting on Tuesday 2 August.
