Swannery car park

August 1, 2011

You may have noticed that the site offices have now been removed from Swannery car park.

Now that construction works are complete for the Weymouth Transport Package we are reinstating the area that was used for the site compound.

This week work will be taking place to resurface some areas of the car park.

  • Monday 1 August, 4pm to midnight – access into the car park will not be restricted for these works
  • Thursday 4 August, from about 9pm – there will be times where access to the car park is restricted to enable the final surfacing to be completed

Re-lining of the car park will be starting on Tuesday 2 August.

Weymouth Transport Package (large version)

Construction work on the Weymouth Transport Package will be suspended on Wednesday 18 August – Weymouth Carnival Day – with Boot Hill reopened to two-way traffic for one day.

After discussions with Southern Gas Networks Dorset County Council’s highways team has taken the decision to stop work and allow motorists up and down Boot Hill for one day, to minimise disruption to the town’s road network.

The visitors centre in Swannery Car Park will be closed on Wednesday 18 August, but will be open again on Thursday 19 August between midday and 2pm.

WTP Site Compound Art Work (large version)

Melanie Russell, a London-based artist, has been appointed to work with the project team, four local schools and the RSPB to come up with a design for the site compound hoardings.

Melanie has worked with groups of children from local schools – Beechcroft Primary, Holy Trinity Primary, Radipole Primary and St John’s Primary – to help generate ideas.

Melanie started work on site in July and will be finished by mid-August. The designs use collage to represent species that are found in the RSPB’s Weymouth nature reserves.

The picture above shows Melanie’s work so far.
