Aerial pictures

August 31, 2011

The final set of aerial images of the junction improvements are now available on our Flickr account.

The image above is looking at Westham Crossroads towards Kings Crossroads, Jubilee Retail Park junction and King Street.

Work is continuing to equip bus stops in the borough with real time information displays.

We are monitoring the network and will make alterations where necessary to ensure the system is working as efficiently as possible.

Following the completion on the junction works, this blog will no longer be updated.

All questions and enquiries can still be directed to the project team:

Rodwell Road / Avenue junction

August 25, 2011

Rodwell junction (large version)

We appreciate that there have been some difficulties for traffic exiting Rodwell Avenue due to the junction being blocked by vehicles.

This week our traffic signal engineers have carried out some changes to the phasing of the Rodwell Road/Avenue junction to improve traffic flow for vehicles exiting Rodwell Avenue.

Since the changes have been made exiting Rodwell Avenue has improved.

King Street corridor

August 11, 2011

Since the King Street signals were switched on it has not been working as efficiently as it could do to clear congestion. This is because we could not introduce the SCOOT system, which is the element that links the junctions, when the signals were first switched on.

The SCOOT system will be in place by the end of this week so that next week we can start to manage traffic flows along the corridor and reduce some of the congestion that has been forming there.

We will continue to keep a close eye on the network and make improvements where necessary to ensure the system is working as efficiently as possible.

Retail park junction

July 25, 2011

The last junction improved as part of the Weymouth Transport Package will be switched on during the afternoon of Tuesday, 26 July.

The Jubilee Retail Park entrance/exit, Radipole Park Drive and Swannery Car Park have had their kerbs realigned and signals installed.

This junction will feed into Kings Crossroads and improve the access into and out of the retail park.

Jubilee Retail Park junction (large version)

Work has started this week to build out the kerb alignment and traffic islands for the new signalised junction on Radipole Park Drive.

This junction will manage traffic on Radipole Park Drive and vehicles entering and exiting Swannery Car Park and Jubilee Retail Park, and will be linked with the Kings junction.

This will help prevent the congestion often experienced in the retail park car park and Radipole Park Drive/Kings Roundabout area.

The junction is programmed to be finished in early July.

Lanehouse junction goes live

April 28, 2011

Lanehouse junction works drawing (large version)At lunchtime today the new Lanehouse signals went live.

Work started on Monday 7 February to improve the Lanehouse Rocks Road junction with Lynch Lane.

The improvements have added a dedicated right turn lane on the northbound approach, which allows traffic to pass while a separate right turn queue forms.

The pedestrian facilities have also been upgraded on all arms of the junction, and they are ‘intelligent’ so that if a pedestrian presses the button and then walks away, the crossing will cancel the action.

Dorset Highways will be monitoring the new signal setup to make sure it is running efficiently.

Thank you for your patience while this work was carried out.

Cemetery junction works

Portland Road junction with Wyke Road (large version)

Work will start on Monday 18 April, for four days, to install a mini-roundabout at the Portland Road junction with Wyke Road.

As a result of changes at the Wyke Road junction with Rodwell Road some northbound traffic from the Portland direction will naturally be re-routed along Wyke Road towards Rodwell Road (Boot Hill), or down Lanehouse Rocks Road.

To ensure that drivers can use these routes as a viable alternative, the junction of Portland Road with Wyke Road (cemetery junction) is being improved.

Stop/go boards will be used outside of peak traffic times on the Monday and Tuesday, and on the Wednesday and Thursday nights a short section of Portland Road will be closed.

Rodwell junction

March 2, 2011

Rodwell junction (large version)The final set of signals along the Boot Hill corridor are going live this week.

The new Rodwell junction will be switched on during Thursday afternoon, depending on the outcome of the testing of the signals.

With these last set of signals live, work will start later this month to link the junctions along the corridor, which will make them more efficient.

Temporary traffic lights have been at the Rodwell Avenue junction with Rodwell Road since Boot Hill was made one-way for the improvement work to be carried out.

Portland Road / Wyke Road junction

February 24, 2011

Portland Road junction with Wyke Road (large version)As part of the transport package project, improvements are being made to the Portland Road junction with Wyke Road (cemetery junction).

Changes are needed at this junction as a result of changes at the Wyke Road junction with Rodwell Road – some northbound traffic will naturally re-routed along Wyke Road towards Rodwell Road (Boot Hill), or down Lanehouse Rocks Road.

To assist this, and ensure that the route becomes a viable alternative, cemetery junction must be improved.

Read more about the scheme here.
