Kings Crossroads switch on

July 5, 2011

Kings Crossroads phasing (large version)

Kings Crossroads will go live in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and marks the count down to the completion of the Weymouth Transport Package junction improvements.

The Esplanade junction will be live early next week and the Queen Street junction and Jubilee Retail Park junction will be switched on in the next two weeks.

King Street will reopen to two-way traffic by Friday 22 July.

The project site offices on Swannery Car Park will start to be removed on Monday 25 July.

Signal fault

July 5, 2011

There are currently faults in the detection equipment at Harbour Crossroads, which is causing delays in the area.

Resurfacing overnight damaged six sensors in the middle of the junction. This means that the signals are giving the longest time of safety clearance (all red) after each phase of the junction.

The right turn into North Quay from Boot Hill is also affected; giving the minimum green time and working intermittently.

Siemens will be on site tonight and tomorrow morning to repair and reconnect the detection equipment.

Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes wherever possible.

2-way lights

July 4, 2011

There will be temporary two-way traffic lights on The Esplanade tomorrow, Tuesday 5 July, between 9.30am and 4pm.

This is so that drainage work at the pedestrian crossing near Enzo’s can be finished.

The work should take one day. If traffic is particularly heavy, the lights will be taken off and the work will resume on Wednesday.

King Street one-way again

July 1, 2011

The work to rebuild a Wessex Water manhole has finished a day early, meaning that King Street will reopen to one-way traffic later tonight.

King Street will reopen to two-way traffic in three weeks time.

King Street will also be closed between The Esplanade and Park Street from the early hours of Wednesday 29 June to midnight on Saturday 2 July.

Vehicles will be able cross King Street to and from Gloucester Mews and Crescent Street, with Crescent Street becoming two-way during the closure.

Drivers will be able to access the Esso Garage and Upway Street from the Kings junction end of King Street.

The train station should be accessed via Astrid Way and Queen Street.

Park Street will be unaffected by the closure and pedestrian access will be maintained along King Street at all times.

Iconic shelters for seafront

June 21, 2011

New bus shelter on seafront (large version)

The seven old, brown bus shelters at The King’s Statue are being replaced with modern, stylish, sailing-inspired shelters.

As part of the £4.75m Weymouth Showcase element of the transport package, the new shelters will also have real time information displays for passengers to see exactly when the next bus is due.

Three shelters on the beach side of The Esplanade have been installed so far and the remaining four will be installed on the shop side of The Esplanade in July, after the bus stop improvement work in the area has been completed.

The glass for the shelters will be fitted once the final surfacing of the road has been laid, and the real time information displays will be operational later this year.
