Reminder – road closure

Portland Road closure (large version)

A small section of Portland Road will be closed to traffic on Wednesday and Thursday between 6pm and midnight.

This is so that the area can be resurfaced and the new lining for the junction can be laid.

Northbound traffic will be directed along Buxton Road, down Cross Road and onto Wyke Road.

Southbound traffic will be directed down Lanehouse Rocks Road onto Lynch Road, along Chickerell Road and down Abbotsbury Road to Westham Crossroads. Drivers will then be signed along the A354 southbound.

  1. David Winterburn Says:

A number of times I have come down Boot Hill to Harbour Junction to cross to Westway Road. Despite the lights being green the way across is blocked by statoionary traffic traffic turning right from Newstead Road to go up Boot Hill. When this happens the intelligent lights get confused and start changing from green to red and back again in quick succession making matters worse. Why is the junction not hatched so that drivers don’t enter unless their exit is clear.

    • Weymouth Transport Package Says:

      Hi David Winterburn,

Thank you for your comments. They have been passed to our signals engineers to investigate.

The engineers need to ascertain whether the cars stopping in the middle of the junction is trapped due to congestion of southbound traffic up Boot Hill or whether it is something else. Our engineers will be investigating this area over the next week or so.

Box junctions are not arbitrarily placed at traffic signal junctions, but are used to resolve specific issues of junction blocking. Until the traffic patterns settle down from the various roadworks in the area, we will not be able to observe if junction blocking will occur in a balanced network and only then will any localised issue be dealt with.
