Clearance for iconic bridge

Sustrans Connect2 Day - Newstead Road (large version)

This week, Dorset Highways will be clearing vegetation on the Rodwell Trail in preparation for the new bridge.

Shrub is being cleared at the end of each embankment, either side of Newstead Road, to give enough space for the bridge to be built.

The work is being carried out in consultation with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, and is being done now before the bird nesting season starts.

We are hoping to receive planning approval shortly, which we will update the webpages with information when this is received. We will also be able to provide further information on the construction programme once we receive planning approval.

At the moment, it is hoped that bridge construction will start in October 2011.
