Lanehouse junction improvement

Lanehouse junction with Lynch Road (large version)

Lanehouse Rocks Road junction with Lynch Lane will become an even more critical junction once the Weymouth Transport Package works are finished.

There is currently no room for passing traffic when two or more consecutive vehicles want to turn right from Lanehouse Rocks Road into Lynch Road, which results in gridlock until the right turners have cleared.

Improvements to this junction will add a dedicated right turn lane on the northbound approach, which will allow traffic to pass while a separate right turn queue forms.

Work is programmed to start early next year.

You can see the scheme drawing on the web page.

A worthwhile improvement, but why will this junction become more critical with the Package?
Surely you’re not designating it as part of the Primary Route A354 are you?

    • Weymouth Transport Package Says:

      Hi Stuart Morris,
In conjunction with the Weymouth Transport Package and the Weymouth Relief Road, direction signs in Weymouth are being rationalised and this includes encouraging light, non-local northbound traffic to use the Lanehouse corridor. The A354 will remain the primary route.

  2. Stuart Morris Says:

    Thank you.
I don’t think many will regard it reasonable for all light traffic from Portland to be sent on the more tortuous and substandard Lanehouse route.

Surely it’s not just to relieve the pressures on the new Town Centre junctions?

    Anyway, Happy Christmas!
