Southern section of Redlands Route (large version)

The southern section of the Redlands Route through Lodmoor Country Park is now finished.

Work started at the beginning of October to improve the gravel track from the rugby club through the country park to Preston Beach Road cycleway.

The route from the rugby club down the back of the pitch and putt has been re-laid with better quality gravel and the existing tarmac path around the miniature railway and behind the Sealife Centre to the Preston cycleway has been resurfaced.

The northern section of the Redlands Route, along Dorchester Road, is currently being consulted on as part of the Dorchester Road landscape enhancement proposals.

Elsewhere, work has finished on the first phase of the Marsh Route, between Newstead Road and behind the swimming pool to Chickerell Road.

The link from the outdoor education centre to the Rodwell trail is scheduled to be completed after Wessex Water has finished working in the area.

  • The second phase of the Marsh Route to link Radipole Lane to Budmouth College is programmed to start early next year.
  • A final third phase of the route does not have funding but remains an aspiration, this will continue the cycleway up to Chickerell Link Road.

Phase one of the Portland Beach Road cycleway improvements is programmed to start in spring 2011. It will link the Rodwell Trail to the Chesil Beach visitor centre.

  • Phase two of the improvements, from the visitor centre to Portland, remains an aspiration but does not currently have funding.

As well as supporting the movements of spectators in 2012, the four routes being developed have been chosen as they link with the existing walking and cycling trails in the area, as well as the relief road cycleway, and will go towards completing a cycle network in the borough.

Granby Way cycleway was completed at the end of May 2009.
