Fortunately, the waterproof layer on the first half of Swannery Bridge was applied before the wet weather of Wednesday last week, which meant that the work stayed on schedule.
Today and tomorrow, work will carry on to put down the first layer of surfacing.
Traffic will be switched onto the south side of the bridge on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, depending on how long it takes the surface to cool.
The surface of the north section of the bridge will then be planed off, with the waterproofing hopefully applied on Thursday. Once this has dried the ducting and kerbing can be completed.
Work will then focus on maintenance to the expansion joints and final surfacing of the bridge.
Weather permitting, it is hoped the bridge will be open to two-way traffic in around two weeks time.
