Ferry Bridge and the ORN

Ferry Bridge (large version)

After issuing the press release about the Ferry Bridge essential maintenance, the project team were contacted by the Dorset Echo for an additional comment for the newspaper article about the work.

Here is our full response to that enquiry.

Dorset County Council strategic projects manager Matthew Piles said:

“All highway work that will affect the Olympic Route Network (ORN) has to be finished by 27 July 2011, 12 months before the Games, as required by the Olympic Delivery Authority.

“In Weymouth the work is particularly noticeable as utility companies, as well as the county council, are getting essential works done not only on the ORN corridor but also on the main side roads used by local residents, as these will see an increase of traffic during Games time.

“The bridge maintenance is weather dependent. It was not feasible to do it during the summer holidays and that has left a small window of opportunity to do the works now.”
