Weymouth and Portland residents are being encouraged to find out more about walking and cycling in preparation for summer 2012.

You’ll also be able to sign up for adult cycle training.
This week, Dorset Highways will be clearing vegetation on the Rodwell Trail in preparation for the new bridge.
Shrub is being cleared at the end of each embankment, either side of Newstead Road, to give enough space for the bridge to be built.
The work is being carried out in consultation with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, and is being done now before the bird nesting season starts.
The southern section of the Redlands Route through Lodmoor Country Park is now finished.
Work started at the beginning of October to improve the gravel track from the rugby club through the country park to Preston Beach Road cycleway.
The route from the rugby club down the back of the pitch and putt has been re-laid with better quality gravel and the existing tarmac path around the miniature railway and behind the Sealife Centre to the Preston cycleway has been resurfaced.
The northern section of the Redlands Route, along Dorchester Road, is currently being consulted on as part of the Dorchester Road landscape enhancement proposals.
Elsewhere, work has finished on the first phase of the Marsh Route, between Newstead Road and behind the swimming pool to Chickerell Road.
Walkers and cyclists can this week view the design of the Newstead Road Bridge in Weymouth.
A public exhibition is being held at Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre on Knightsdale Road, where Brighton-based artist Bruce Williams and council engineers will be available to answer any questions:
The iconic bridge has been designed by Bruce, who earlier this year worked with local school children and held a public open studio to gather concepts for what local people wanted the bridge to represent.
The Portland Beach Road scheme consists of upgrading the existing shared-use footway/cycleway route from the Rodwell Trail at Ferrybridge to the Chesil Beach Visitors Centre. The scheme includes the provision of a toucan crossing at the end of the Rodwell Trail across Portland Beach Road.

Construction of the Marsh Route is progressing well and is on schedule.
Dorset Works Organisation finished working between Quibo Lane and Radipole Lane last week and have moved on to complete the section of cycleway between Quibo Lane and Abbotsbury Road.
A temporary bus stop has been put in place on the junction of Radipole Lane and Benville Road while kerbing works are carried out. This will be in place for about a week.
On 25 August, the new surface will be laid on the footway/cycleway between Radipole Lane and Abbotsbury Road.
Works between Abbotsbury Road and Radipole Lane will be completed by August bank holiday.
Work has started today on the new Marsh Route cycleway, which will run from Budmouth Technology College to the Rodwell Trail on Newstead Road.
For the next 13 weeks the section of cycleway and footway between the Marsh playing fields and Radipole Lane will be built.
The remaining northern section will be finished early next year, when transport package works on Harbour Roundabout have finished.
